A lot has already been written on the subjunctive. Take any grammar book and you will find an amazing wealth of information, pages and pages filled with thousands of very detailed technical jargon that requires almost a linguistic degree for the learner to start to make sense of what the author meant to say.
In addition, most of those materials have such lengthy explanations that you would expect at least an amazing amount of examples to see how the subjunctive works in practical situations. However, for the most part that is wishful thinking. Most grammar books present hundreds of phrases that trigger the subjunctive yet, most of the examples use only a couple of phrases and leave out the remaining 95%. I guess the authors assume that, by virtue of their superb explanations, learners will immediately know how to use them no matter what phrase you throw at them. Unfortunately, that never happens.
Despite the huge amount of information, most intermediate to advanced Spanish learners feel at a loss when it comes to using the subjunctive. And mind you, we are not talking about lazy students. In most cases we are talking about very hard-working individuals trying to study very hard each of the rules from their book. Yet, everything seems to be so mysterious and esoteric that they feel totally helpless when it comes to the subjunctive. I have met lots of very advanced students who have gone to such lengths as to develop some techniques of their own to avoid using the subjunctive. However, when it comes to the subjunctive, you can run, but you cannot hide_ or at least for long.
A lot has been written, yes. And most of it is very technical and difficult to understand for most learners. Even worse, in most materials on the subjunctive there are just a bunch of examples and not enough practice_ let alone real life applications. And because of all of the above, most Spanish learners can’t use the subjunctive. Period. That is why in this book I am going to do exactly the opposite of whatever has been done so far. I am going to keep explanations very brief and to the point. I am not going to use fancy grammar names or concepts if I could avoid them. I truly believe even complex topic could be explained easily if we break them down into manageable parts. That is what I am going to do with the Subjunctive.
Yes, it is a HUGE topic. Yet, I am going to break it down into very small parts which I will try to explain well enough for everyone to understand it AND… after we learn each concept I will give you lots and lots of practice before moving on to the next one. After learning a few key ideas and practicing them in isolation, I will give you lots of consolidation exercises to make absolutely sure you can see these concepts in action when they are combined. This will be a constant throughout the book. Even better, at the end of the book, once you know all there is to know about the Subjunctive, I will show you how it works by analyzing it in a play written for native Spanish speakers.
If you are tired of struggling to understand how The Spanish Subjunctive works, then this book is for you. Additionally, the whole book will be available on video soon (optional - not included in the purchase price here)

I bought this book for additional practice for a college course I am taking. Unfortunately it has been a disappointment. This book says to conjugate the present subjunctive by removing the end of the infinitive and adding the present subjunctive endings that correspond to each person. The very first exercise has you conjugating “pagar” so conjugating it as explained doesn’t work. It is not noted in the book how to conjugate verbs that end in “gar.” You’d think that since “pagar” is in the first exercise that it would’ve been explained.Conjugating the book’s way leaves many “irregular verbs” as the book calls them for you to memorize, like decir, poner, tener, and venir. In my class, I learned to take the yo form of the infinitive, drop “o” and then add the present subjunctive endings. This leaves less to memorize because decir, poner, etc. are really not irregular and come out correctly doing it this way. I don’t really trust this book now. I was looking for specific explanations as to why a sentence is in subjunctive, and did not see that in the present subjunctive section.

The Spanish Subjunctive The Only Guide You will EVER need edition by Julio Foppoli Reference eBooks Reviews
This book is truly amazing. I have used many different textbooks over the years to learn the subjunctive, and nothing is as organized and clear as this book. The author gives so many examples, with lots of repetition for practice. There is also an audio program available that is reasonably priced and wonderful. The two together are the best and most fun way to really master the subjunctive verb forms and usage.
No doubt about it, the subjunctive is a very broad and heavy topic that can give even the most serious of learners a reason to want to second guess their endeavor to become conversational in the Spanish language. I know first hand at what it's like to try to learn the subjunctive and I do consider myself a very motivated and serious student of the Spanish language and honestly, it can drive me to tears. BUT... this book has opened my eyes and changed my whole outlook on the Spanish Language!
My Spanish instructor introduced me to this book here online and I now have it in my possession! This book is Fantastic!
While other books on this subject have been very confusing to me and somewhat disheartening, this book is not. It's easy to understand and it breaks everything down for you so that their is virtually no guess work involved. It's extremely practical with easy to understand illustrations, definitions, examples of usage for everyday conversation and practice exercises with the answer keys that gives you detailed explanations.
The best thing about this book is that It gives me the confidence to IMMEDIATELY use what I've learned from it in conversations with native Spanish speakers and for me, that's what it's all about.
We all know that if your goal is to be conversational in Spanish, you have to learn the Subjunctive because native Spanish speakers use it ALL THE TIME. Honestly, in my opinion, this book is all you need and will help take you to the next level.
When I saw this book on I initially thought it was a tad expensive at $47 considering that other books sell for around $10. I found the website and discovered that there is a combined e-book/video version for $87. Taking a leap of faith, I decided to try the video/e-book program, and have not regretted that decision at all. Every detail is explained by the author Julio Foppoli. There are opportunities to practice and reinforce what you have learned and you can go back to review quickly if you need to review.
If you are a serious student of Spanish and are desiring to speak as much as possible like a native, then purchase this book and the accompanying videos. I have studied Spanish over the past 10 or so years in various environments (community colleges, university, private tutoring, immersion in Spain and Costa Rica) and have never been shown the fine points of the subjunctive the way Mr. Foppoli shows in his book and videos.
I took an advanced Spanish grammar course (level 300) which was the final grammar course for the Spanish majors. In that class we learned a pittance of the subjunctive compared to what is in Mr. Foppoli’s book and video.
The video and book complement each other. You can use the book as an introduction and the video as a review, or vice versa. The book is a reference book, textbook, and workbook all in one. It is complete standing alone and does not require the videos. To facilitate self-study, the answers can be found in the back of the book.
Particularly helpful (and usually only skimmed over in classrooms) is the emphasis on adverbial clauses which sometimes, never, or always require the subjunctive. Mr. Foppoli gives thorough explanations of the meanings of two forms of the same sentence what it means if the verb is in the indicative, and what it means if the verb is in the subjunctive. Subtle differences that aren’t explained in classrooms.
Mr. Foppoli’s writing style is clear and easily understood. The book is full of colorful graphics that help to visually explain the concept being taught.
Book is okay but would prefer a paper copy rather than only.
For someone that has picked up my Spanish by living in country, I did not always learn the rules necessary to make myself a professional speaker. Now with this book from Julio, I am learning all the reasons why I use the words and conjunctions I use, and more importantly why I need to change specific one. Thanks Julio for putting this out, it's taking my learning to a whole new level.
The title is true! It is the ONLY book you would ever need on the subjunctive. The author did a phenomenal job!! The topic is massive and I believe other books just wouldn't dare to take the time to cover every aspect of the subjunctive. ( such as the subjunctive book from Gordon and Cynthia from lightspeed Spanish and many other teachers of the language ) I now understand the subjunctive thanks to this author! I took notes and summarized every chapter of the book in my notebook for a quick reference.
